Request Support
You Are Not AloneWhen your family is facing a crisis, we make our families available. We’re here to make sure you are not alone when you know you can’t do it by yourself.
Safe Families for Children is a network of vetted, trained volunteers who walk alongside you while you take steps to regain stability and get back on your feet. Whether you need a a supportive community or a safe place for your kids to stay, we’re here to provide support, not judgement.
As the biological parent (or legal guardian), you maintain full custody of your children. And you are encouraged to participate in decisions regarding their care while they are being hosted. We aim to form a partnership between you and the volunteer families and see your Circle of Support as an extended family.
Our goal is to help keep your family together. You stay in control, and we work with you every step of the way to help you reach your goals and help your family thrive.

Parents who request help from a Host Family through Safe Families for Children often have questions. We have answered some common ones here and encourage you to contact your local chapter with any questions you may have.
How soon can I get help?
Can I change my mind?
Do I lose rights to my kids?
No, absolutely not. You keep full custody of your children at all times. You are not giving up any of your rights or power. And you are encouraged to participate in decisions regarding their care while they are being hosted. We aim to form a partnership between you and the volunteer families and see the Host Family as an extended family.
How frequently may I speak with or see my kids?
We hope that you will see your kids every week. And daily calls are ideal. More frequent visits may be possible depending on how far away the Host Family lives. Because these families are volunteers, we want to ensure the arrangements are convenient for everyone involved.
Can my kids stay together?
Every effort will be made to keep your children together in the home of one Host Family. But this may not be possible because our volunteer Host Families cover the costs of caring for your children. There may be space and/or time constraints to taking more than one child at a time.
How will my child be taken care of? School, daycare, medical needs, etc?
We will do everything in our power to ensure your child’s daily routine is maintained. This includes your child’s schools and daycare. If arrangements cannot be made to keep the same school, we’ll work with you to make new arrangements. And Host Families will work with you to ensure your child is healthy and safe at all times.
